THE 68TH ASSAULT HELICOPTER COMPANY ASSOCIATION

DECEMBER 2010 NEWSLETTER

Greetings Top Tigers ,

My name is Dave Holloway, I am the new President of the Association.  I was elected at this year’s reunion in Orlando.  If you were at the reunion, you already know this, but if you weren’t, let me be the first to tell you it was one of the best reunions we have had, and I have been to all of the reunions since 2000. My compliments go to Howard Smith and Ron Sheffield for all their efforts in the planning.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the other officers and board members who were also elected at this year’s reunion. Kevin Brooks, door gunner 67-68, was elected Treasurer.  Jim Rodgers, pilot 65-66, was elected Reunion Point of Contact (POC). George Manly, pilot 68-69; Sandy Noyes, crew chief 67-68; and Gary Drackett, pilot 67-68 were elected as Executive Board Members.

During the preparation of the reunion “after-action-report” it was brought to our attention that the association’s by-laws require us to elect someone to the offices of Vice-President and Secretary. After reviewing the by-laws it was determined that any elected member may hold one or more positions on the Executive Board.  With that in mind and to keep in line with the membership’s wishes, the Executive Board named Sandy Noyes Vice-President/Secretary.  Replacing Sandy on the Executive Board is Jim Rodgers.  In short, all Officers and Executive Board members are the same six people that were elected by the membership at this year’s reunion.

One of the first things I did as President was to appoint a five-member Advisory Committee. The committee consists of Dave Green, crew chief 67-68; Ron Sheffield, pilot 67-68; Howard Smith, pilot 68-69; Frans Vandenbroek; crew chief 67-69; and Geoffrey (GR) Webster, pilot 68-69.  These five Tigers have been actively involved in the association for many years and we will look to them for advice and guidance over the coming months.

So you know who is handling the affairs of the association and planning the next reunion, I urge you to go to the “Member’s Biography” section and review the information on your officers, board members, and advisory committee.

Planning has already begun for the 2012 Reunion in Atlanta. Last week I spent a few days in Atlanta doing a “recon” of the area. Over the next several months I will be working closely with Jim Rodgers to finalize the hotel selection process and send out proposals for the reunion.  Exact dates for the 2012 Reunion have not yet been selected but in will be sometime between mid-September and early October.

I know it is still a long way off, but now is the time to begin, at least, thinking about attending.

Watch for more information on the reunion in my Spring Newsletter.

On behalf of the Association Officers and Board Members I want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
